Trauma counselors help people process traumatic events that they have suffered and develop ways to cope with resulting emotions.A traumatic event can be any stressful event that an individual has difficulty coping with afterwards. Examples of such a trauma might include active service within war, tragic accidents, having suffered abuse or being the victim of a violent crime as well as events such as a death of a close relative or friend.

An individual’s reaction to trauma can be complex and varies greatly from person to person. Dealing with the emotional overload that can result from experiencing trauma can often be difficult without professional help. A trauma counselor can play a vital role in helping someone get past the trauma and the symptoms they may still experience.

We were able to provide these services to the students at Moi Girls Nairobi, after the fire incident.

Counseling is an integral element of Oncology treatment. Diagnosis of Cancer is devastating for patients as well as for families. Patients have a whole plethora of queries in their minds pertaining to their diagnosis, treatment , follow-ups and survival, changes in their life, their life with and after cancer, their relationship with their spouse, children, work relationships, finances etc. Patients do speak to their doctors as well as Nurses, but someone who can understand each phase they are going through is a Psychologist.

Counselors cannot always solve problems, but they provide a safe place for people with cancer to talk about their concerns. Because counselors are separate from a person’s life, they provide a helpful, outside viewpoint.

We provide similar services at the Cancer Care Center Nairobi

We offer individual counseling to help students resolve personal or interpersonal problems, small group counseling to help students enhance listening and social skills, learn to empathize with others, and find social support through healthy peer relationships. We also provide support to school staff by assisting with classroom management techniques and the development of programs to improve mental health or school safety. When necessary, counselors may also intervene in a disrupted learning environment.

Children and young adults need guidance and support, especially when it comes to dealing with academic, personal, parental and social pressures. Helping people reach their potential is our number one goal
